Description of Job

Work Unit:

This work unit exists to provide general maintenance for the Colorado Department of Agriculture owned buildings. General maintenance includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, grounds, painting, and other maintenance functions.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

This position exists to provide general labor, grounds maintenance and repairs for all CDA buildings and offices but will generally be at the Broomfield campus. Position performs various minor repairs and improvements to buildings and grounds including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC maintenance & repairs, painting, and light electrical work. Position prepares buildings and grounds for special events held on site. Position performs grounds keeping activities such as general cleanup as well as communicating with landscape contractor. Position communicates with other venders as needed for preventative maintenance for the buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Duty: Building and Grounds Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Position performs various repairs and improvements to buildings and grounds including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC maintenance & repairs, painting, light electrical work, repairs and performs maintenance on various facility-owned equipment and any other general maintenance or repair tasks as assigned.

  • Duty: Groundskeeping:

  • Position performs groundskeeping activities such as light snow removal, general cleanup and monitoring of landscape contractors.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

This position is a grant funded appointment with funding for 24 months, with a possibility of extension. Appointment to this position is contingent upon continued funding and available work. The incumbent will be required to sign a Waiver of Retention Rights.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Proven Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Experience:

  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a full complement of structural trades duties (building maintenance trades including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, ground maintenance, painting, electrical work or locksmithing).

Substitutions:

  • Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher-level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.

  • Use, handling, or exposure to hazardous materials- proximity to moving, mechanical parts, to exposure to hazardous materials.

  • Requires ability to perform the physical aspects of this job which include exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

  • Manual Dexterity, performing general physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving of your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

  • Requires work inside and outside as needed in inclement weather (hot, cold, wet, humid, and/or windy) conditions.


Required Competencies:

  • Requires basic computer skills using Gmail, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Must be able to perform all physical components of position.

  • Knowledge of the tools used in this occupation.

  • Knowledge of technology used in this occupation (electronic locks, appliances, etc.)

  • Knowledge of and proper handling of hazardous material, protective clothing and storing.

  • Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, create systems and processes and collaborate with and engage others.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally with diverse communities.

  • Work well under pressure.

  • Strong relationship management skills and excellent representation of the department in community interactions.

  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.

  • Knowledge of the tools used in this occupation (i.e. tube benders, pipe cutters, handheld snakes, etc.)

    Appeal Rights:
