Our engineers work closely with design teams from commercial, civil, and government.

ROLE

As a member of our Radiation Effects team, the Lead Systems Radiation Effects Engineer will be responsible for the conception, definition, execution, and reporting of radiation effects analysis and testing.

Responsibilities:

As a key member of our Radiation Effects team, Lead Systems Radiation Effects Engineer will:

  • Lead a team of world-class Radiation Effects Engineers.

  • Analyze component, circuit, sub-system and system level requirements, designs, and test protocols to determine suitability of mechanical, optical, thermal, and electronic systems for operation in radiation environments.

  • Conduct technical planning, specification requirements derivation, test and analysis, design, documentation, requirements validation, and risk assessments to support overall system needs and act as technical consultant for colleagues and customers.

  • Define Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA) requirements based upon mission, environment, application, lifetime and risk profile.

  • Participate in reviews and working groups to share information, findings and recommendations related to the design and function of electrical, mechanical, optical and data systems that must operate in space radiation environments.

  • Based on analysis, observation, and test, provide recommendations for design and mitigation of radiation effects.

Abilities:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Define natural radiation environments for long-term and transient threats.

  • Create hardness assurance plans of varying rigor to mitigate radiation effects, in line with the program’s risk profiles.

  • Understand radiation effects on materials and electronics and how to implement mitigation at the device, circuit, and system level.

  • Interface with customers and colleagues.

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Design and perform radiation effects testing for Total Ionizing Dose, Total Non-ionizing Dose, Single Event Effects, Charging, and/or Dose Rate.

Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in engineering or physics from an accredited school and 6+ years of related engineering experience. Higher degrees count for 2 years of experience.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Ability to work in a team environment consisting of internal and external employees and customers.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Expertise with behavior of electrical, mechanical, optical and data systems in radiation environments and mitigation techniques.

  • Knowledge of Spacecraft concepts and operations.

  • Knowledge of software tools for modeling and analyzing space radiation environments and effects.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of radiation analysis tools such as SRIM, TRIM, MCNP, GEANT4, SPENVIS, IRENE, CREME96.

Compensation

  • The base pay range for this position is Min $180,000 - Max $220,000

  • The pay range shown is based on the job posting's primary location. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
