A Day in the Life

Australian and New Zealand role requiring excellent communication, business partnering and project management skills combined with demonstrated experience developing and executing an EHS strategy in a dynamic, highly matrixed organisation.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and lead the execution of the environmental, health and safety strategy for ANZ that ensures compliance with local regulatory requirements, Medtronic EHS Standards, mitigates risk and is aligned with APAC and Corporate EHS strategies, initiatives and goals

  • Develop and implement an EHS Management system to support the EHS strategy

  • Implement a targeted risk management program that mitigates illness and injury risks, minimizes environmental impacts and meets local regulatory requirements

  • Report on EHS performance to Executive leaders and ANZ Board within the risk management context

  • Engage and influence key stakeholders within the organisation to drive EHS culture

  • Collaborate with leaders on EHS issues related to customer requests and implementation of key projects within ANZ

  • Support, coach and mentor leaders while driving accountability for EHS performance in ANZ

  • Ensure adequate investment in safety initiatives by providing sound business rationale

  • Ensure an EHS consultation framework is in place that encourages employee participation

  • Foster a culture of reporting EHS adverse events including incidents, injuries, near misses and hazards through the Medtronic EHSMIS

  • Ensure effective incident investigation and root cause analysis is conducted

  • Provide leadership to direct reports ensuring the prioritization of strategic and geography goals and targets

  • Strategic oversight of workers compensation claims process

  • Provide support to other APAC sites where needed

  • Participate in and lead regional and global EHS projects

  • Serve as a key contact with external agencies and groups in ANZ to maintain the company’s reputation for excellence in the area of environmental, health and safety

Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience

  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing an EHS strategy and risk reporting

  • Sound working knowledge of health and safety legislation in Australia and New Zealand

  • Sound working knowledge of EHS / Risk Management legislation and principles

  • Sound working knowledge of EEO and anti-discrimination legislation and principles

Good to Have

  • Preferably Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Ergonomics, Safety Science, Safety Engineering with a minimum of 8 -12 years’ experience Workplace assessment and training qualifications desirable

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organisational and project management skills

  • Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organisation

  • Customer focused

  • Commercially savvy

  • Self-motivated and positive

  • Proven ability to influence without authority

  • Change manager

  • “Can Do” attitude

  • Some domestic and overseas travel will be required

  • Some out of hours work will be required
