1.0 Function

  • The Manufacturing Engineer will have an understanding and experience with machines and machine shop involvement.

  • Under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will facilitate coordination and improvement of all technical phases of new and existing processes.

  • Develops the initial customer files and all necessary documentation toward processing of new parts. Organizes and maintains customer files and all necessary documentation toward manufacturing of established parts.

  • Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods and making recommendations for improvements.

2.0 Job Elements

  • Facilitate coordination of all technical phases of manufacturing of existing product including but not limited to:

  • Initial routing creation. Includes an expeditious creation of a routing and allocation sheet to allow for capacity planning. The routings must be as accurate as possible but can be updated as needed prior to initial release.

  • Initiates requisitions to send material out for subcontract operations. Chooses best sources to send work out for subcontract operations. Audits suppliers when necessary.

  • Develops Process Sketches and Operation Procedure Sheets. Creates initial Bill of Documents. The Process Sketches will be as thorough as possible including only the dimensions and information needed at the machining operation it will be used.

  • Maintains customer drawings and documentation. Updates Bill of Documents as necessary.

  • Evaluates and develops manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.

  • Participates in improving manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.

  • Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.

  • Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.

  • Work with equipment designers and manufacturing officers to develop a cost-effective and working production process.

  • Advise on cause and corrective actions.

  • Initiates the Engineering Change Notice Process and follows up on changes on Engineering Change Notices to ensure proper completion.

  • Customer Purchase Order Review as part of Duty Sheet on all orders.

  • TCM Report Review- audit reconciliation for designated customer group.

  • Directs formal NPI (New Process Introduction) as necessary with a scope of cross-functional review as indicated by the NPI process checklist.

  • Supports as directed of the Material Review Board (MRB)- responsible for direct support for daily parts review and disposition.

3.0 Qualifications

  • A Manufacturing Related Engineering Degree is preferred with a minimum of 3 years within a manufacturing environment showing a logical progression in responsibilities and compensation.

  • A High School Diploma or GED is acceptable provided there is a work history in a related manufacturing environment showing a logical progression in responsibilities and compensation with a minimum of five years within a manufacturing environment, machining preferred. 2-3 years should be in Engineering Administration and Process Improvement.

  • Shop floor experience is required.

  • Fundamental computer skills are required with preferences in: CAD, Excel, Word

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead teams, coach and mentor other employees.

  • Practical experience with Lean Manufacturing, tools and application

  • Proven technical knowledge: Print and drawing Interpretation, GD&T, Solidworks preferred.
