Position Summary/Description:

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center ( LCCC ), founded in 1975, is one of 47 National Cancer Institute ( NCI )-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach. The UNC School of Social Work, meanwhile, is a national leader in research: the school’s nearly $22 million research enterprise is driven by numerous research programs, labs, centers, and institutes within the school, as well as by collaborations with partners from other schools, centers, and institutes across campus. The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, and improve lives. The School’s curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.

The UNC LCCC and the UNC School of Social Work seek a Project Manager to lead the day-to-day operations for cancer survivorship studies of Drs. Bridgette Thom and Tess Thompson.

The Project Manager will oversee a multi-grant research portfolio and will collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams to implement externally funded projects. The role entails primary responsibility for the day-to-day project, research, and administrative needs of the portfolio, and the Project Manager will serve as the primary staff member responsible for the planning and timely implementation of research activities for these projects. The Project Manager will also contribute to the team’s dissemination of study findings through presentations at state and national research conferences and through contributing to published manuscripts.

Education and Experience:

  • Experience and interest in cancer survivorship and/or health outcomes research is preferred.

  • Experience supervising research staff and/or interns is highly desirable.

  • Experience leading and conducting organizational outreach and communications (e.g., website design, newsletters, social media, and partnership outreach) is highly desirable.

  • Prior work experience planning and implementing health-related research projects is preferred.
